Description

Watwar three is excellent, but the stretch along the A road into and out of Ware is not very pleasant. This route is identical, but it takes you down a side street instead. A really lovely route

20 Dec 2022 Autumn

We walked from Watton to Ware.
What a wonderful walk on a wintery day, should be even better in summer.
A walk from village to town with minimal road walking. Woods, fields, and views over the rolling Hertfordshire countryside. Varied and full of interest.
Narrow in places and probably not suitable for wheels, and a bit slippery in the snow.
You do not have to cross the A602 there is a short tunnel.
There are pubs at Chapmore End at the halfway mark.

19 Dec 2022 Autumn

We walked on a cold winter day with snow and ice underfoot. The route is lovely, quiet, mostly off road, with views across the rolling Hertfordshire hills.
There were one or two icy patches which needed care, including along the canal towpath at Ware. It wasn’t really possible to make out what was going on in the fields but it’s possible that this route could get muddy in places when not frozen.
There’s no refreshments en route but it’s not very far, a couple of snack stops was all I needed.
Ware has a tempting artisan bakery, and the café at Ware station is warm and welcoming too!.

I walked this route from Watton at Stone to Ware. I was really very pleased with this route - it's easy to follow, pleasant, no hills too steep, gorgeous countryside, varied and interesting, no nasty road crossings, etc. This route has a lovely mix of fields, quiet lanes, woodland paths, even some canal - it's very nicely varied. It successfully avoids big roads as much as possible. Full marks, an excellent walk!.
