Description

Revised version of Waroxt One, which gives a safer crossing of the Halliloo Valley Road, a preferable crossing of the adjacent golf course, and an improved path at Oxted Downs.
Overall the route has some very steep sections and may be muddy or slippy in wet conditions. Some paths are rooty and tricky.
There are refreshments and benches at Woldingham.

Warlingham is a busy village, with a lot of traffic. The Meeting Point is at the war memorial, which would be very suitable, except it is on a traffic island in the middle of the village with no proper pedestrian access. There are bus stops, shops and refreshments nearby.

From Warlingham head south along a residential road towards Woldingham Golf Club. The road runs out of pavement, but there is an off road option through a community nature reserve.
Follow a steep slope through woods to the golf course. There are some sign posts across the course, but it's not comprehensively signed, so use your judgement. The route follows a public right of way.

Why the weird loopy bit at Halliloo Valley road? Because the road is deadly. In short:
Coming from Warlingham going south towards Oxted - it is extremely dangerous to cross the road at this point; if in any doubt follow the loopy trail, cross at the corner, and then walk along the pavement on Woldingham Road until you get to the footpath on the left. This is the safest way to cross the road.
Coming from Oxted going north towards Warlingham - visibility in this direction is good and it should be possible to cross safely without the loop.

After this, climb up the hill and continue along a lovely track to Woldingham. There are refreshments available at the village shop, and benches.

Between Woldingham and Oxted Downs the path goes first downhill, and then a long slow climb through woods to the ridge.
There are fabulous views south as far as the South Downs, but the path down towards Oxted is extremely steep. At the bottom of the Downs is a chalk track with a lot of history.

Cross the M25, and head into Oxted across fields. Meeting Point is at Oxted Station. Lots of shops and refreshments.

Mostly good paths, some awkward woodland paths, some very steep paths; a couple of very short road sections without pavement which should as always be treated with caution

Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
