Description

Virginia Water to Chertsey via Thorpe.
After a number of test runs I've decided this route provides the best combination of pleasant and safe, albeit it is rather indirect.

Between Virginia Water and Thorpe there is pavement along the roadside, and a pub and some pleasant green space at Thorpe Green. There's another good pub at Thorpe.
Between Thorpe and Chertsey the route is as Egham to Chertsey; mostly off road with a good path between the lakes and alongside Thorpe Park amusement park.
Finish up with a lovely town park and cafe at Chertsey

Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

This is a good safe and reasonably pleasant route between Virginia Water and Chertsey, via Thorpe.
It’s indirect, because the more direct routings have features which make them unsafe and/or unpleasant.

Walked Virginia Water to Chertsey.

First a pavement alongside a fairly busy road, downhill to Thorpe Green. I popped into the pub for a quick refreshment stop, then enjoyed a green grassy interlude along the Green.
Underneath the M25, then a quieter road to Thorpe.
Another pub here, very friendly and a good garden.
Thorpe is a quiet backwater with ‘quaint’ stamped all over it.
The second part of the route is on footpaths between lakes and past Thorpe Park amusement park. Access requires stepping over a raised stone lintel, which would impede wheelchairs.
At Chertsey the path surfaces briefly onto the A320 where it crosses the M3. Then there is a lovely park into Chertsey with a cafe and toilets.

I did wonder if it was going to be possible to find a satisfactory route between these two towns, but I’m happy with this one. 4 stars.
