Off Stroude Road there are large wet areas next to the path before crossing the M25 but the path was dry....

I've not attempted this whole walk but as someone local to the area, I can also confirm that the section flagged by the other two reviewers between Whitehall Ln and Stroude Rd was impassible on all 3 occassions I've attempted it. On a bad day you won't even be able to cross the field coming from the Whitehall Lane end and even when I attempted this in the middle of one of the recent very hot summers it wasn't much better and there's the obvious risk you might get stuck somewhere and not be able to get out without assistance. Obviously I'm curious if anyone has ever navigated this, how, what time of year and what the weather was like beforehand....

It takes you pass Thorpe park which is one of my favourite places and you can see a fair share of wildlife....

This is a very pleasant walk from the iron railway bridge near Thames Lodge Hotel to Chertsey Lock....

This is a good safe and reasonably pleasant route between Virginia Water and Chertsey, via Thorpe. The second part of the route is on footpaths between lakes and past Thorpe Park amusement park....
Jane Taylor
Fairly tame and calm, just a few road sections and all of the difficulties that come with them...

Walk this routeI started at Virginia Water and soon had to turn back, towards the end of Trumps Mill Lane where the lane turns into a footpath, due to intimidating guard dogs (more than one). They were large, well trained, and although they started by barking at me from behind a hedge, eventually they came out in the lane itself and blocked the path. Their job was to see off anyone walking along the lane and it worked....

This is a pretty good route considering there are some major obstacles in between the two towns: M3, M25, an amusement park, and a lake or two. Coming into Egham along the Stroude Road is acceptable but takes the shine off; the rest of the route is close to 5 stars imo....
Jane Taylor
I can put up a revised version which keeps the Thorpe part of the walk, then uses the okayish road between Egham and Stroude; and maybe also scope out a route using Whitehall Lane, which is the best way to approach Egham from the South West....

Only dropped from 5 star due to the unavoidable bit of main road (A317) approaching Chertsey....

All the trees provide shade, making it the perfect walk for summer. It isn't too long and doesn't feel entirely secluded due to road sections, making it an nice easy walk that can be done by all. It is mostly accessible, however there are a few parts where the foliage makes the paths narrow to walk down, which may cause some issues...
Tallulah P
Fairly boring walk, better for functionality than having a pleasant time. All of it was next to the road, some of the pavements being very narrow and not easily accessible. However, it doesn't take long and most of the roads are accompanied by some nature...

However, for anyone wanting to head fast into or out of west London from/towards Surrey this route, or the similar Addlestone - Ashford, is effective....

Walk this routeMost of the walk, between Staines and Chertsey bridge, is alongside the river Thames on the Thames footpath. Chertsey bridge is a lovely old river crossing, but it is very trafficy, and I recommend whichever direction you are walking from that you cross facing the traffic, then on the far side of the bridge cross the road using the footpath which passes underneath....

Walk this routeIt is straight, accurately drawn, relatively safe, though crossing Guildford Road in Ottershaw requires one to be watchful, and there is a pavement or a separate lane along the whole route. The main disadvantage is the constant noise from the busy Guildford Road so don't expect a particularly enjoyable walk....

The route comes to a bad start in Chertsey when it suggests to approach Bell Bridge Road from the station via Fox Lane North and a car park....

The towpath part is delightful with loads of wildlife from kingfishers to cormorants. At the end of the riverside part is a lovely pub, the Kingfisher. The road part is, well, a road part....

Although a pleasant, noisy with traffic and a fairly long stretch by side a relatively busy road. The path off Green Lane was narrow with a kissing gate. OK for walkers but challanging for Buggies and wheel chairs....
