Aamwalk
26 Jun 2024 (edited 29 Jun 2024)I walked this in stages and have just completed the last section. There are good reviews on the other routes that include parts of this route (Southall to Hayes and Hayes to Uxbridge).
Overall, this is a good longer canal side walk in urban London (i would give it 3.5 starts if allowed). As stated by the first reviewer some of it is behind light industrial estates or building sites. But as the second reviewer stated there are nicer sections and you can access some smaller green spaces along the route (Lake farm country park, Stockley Park, Cowley Recreation Ground), and it is tranquil. There is also the charm to the canal boats and canal heritage.
I also took the more direct route from Southall town centre along The Broadway/Uxbridge Road and joined the tow path by the territorial army centre. You can join from the south or north side of the road. There is a colourful mural of local sites on the northern bridge wall (see photo).
Once on the tow path it is straightforward to follow. At the steep Bulls Bridge the two London arms of the canal merge and you head west towards Hayes/Uxbridge, the tow path then stays on the northern/eastern bank for most of the route before switching to the west side after Cowley (Iver Lane).
When you reach Uxbridge the route leaves the canal on to the A4007, which you can follow all the way towards the town centre. But the shown route takes you along the quieter Waterloo Rd, Fray’s Waye across Rockingham recreation Ground and the Frays River, then Wellington Road. Coming out at the large round about, which you can cross and then head up Windsor St to the town centre.

14 Apr 2022I agree with MikeTalbot the previous reviewer, there is an easily corrected mapping error at the Southall end. I've included a picture of the correction, or take the path along the Uxbridge Road as shown on the Haysou route (the better option I think).
The above part is along uninspiring suburban residential streets, the rest I've reviewed in 2 parts as Uxbhay and Haysou.
Its mostly canals which some find humdrum but on this walk I saw: mandarin, mallard, golden eye, coot, cormorant - Kite, kestrel, crow, blue tits, wagtails - coral spot, jew's ear, turkey tail, birch polypore, field mushroom - oak ash, maple, Hawthorne, cherry - bluebells, dandelions, anemones, Blossom and purple orchid - and so much more.

21 Jan 2022 (edited 26 Jan 2022)I walked this route from Southall to Uxbridge.
Slight ammend needed - at Southall end I could not find a path to go left on Ranelagh Road, as shown on this route. I walked up to the main Uxbridge Road and followed that - however on the map it looks like there might be a footpath alongside Blair Peach Primary School at the end of Beaconsfield Road so this is worth exploring.
Once you have found the canal towpath at Southall this is a very easy-to-follow, easy-to-walk route which mainly follows the Grand Union Canal (which is also a big part of London Loop section 11). The path is usually very good and flat, although there are a few dirt track sections which can get muddy. However, there is not a lot to see or do on this walk: at the Southall end there is a lot of building work (e.g. for “The Green Quarter” housing project), and then it's mainly views to the back of factories, warehouses and a glimpse into Stockley Park business park. You could visit Little Britain Lake as a short detour at Cowley. There are no benches along the path from Southall to Cowley. You pass two pubs at Cowley (Waters Edge and Malt Shovel) and this path is very close to the highstreets of Hayes, West Drayton, Yiewsley and Cowley which have trains/buses, shops and food and drink.

14 Apr 2022No path near the school - gates. Mapped alleys between houses are also shut- gates. Best to walk to the highstreet and down Bankside.
Or just simply walk along the Uxbridge Road to the canal. -
