Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

22 Sep 2024We walked this route in mid-September 2024, heading from Barrhead to Uplawmoor. Once the route leaves Barrhead, crossing the railway to climb the hill, there is a lovely section along country lanes. The route heads into Nielston (with some food shop options for refreshments) – and then there is a clearly marked footpath to rejoin another rural road. Just before Uplawmoor there is a steep incline – but it is worth it for the view at the top! The route then drops back down into the village. A straight-forward and pleasant route with some beautiful scenic views.

22 Sep 2024We walked this in September going south from Barrhead. Once out of the town, there's a nice stretch along country lanes with long views of the surrounding countryside. The route goes into Nielston before becoming more rural again. There's a steep uphill climb just before Uplawmoor, which has rewarding views at the top, before winding down into the village. A simple route that's easy to follow and quick underfoot.

19 Sep 2024A really nice, straightforward route, with good views and paths. Walked north to south in September. The route out of Barrhead quickly makes use of a park and then emerges from the town and crosses the railway to climb the hill on quite rural roads. There are some food and shop options in Neilston. From there, the route uses a clearly marked footpath and bridge to rejoin another rural road, cresting the hill and dropping down into Uplawmoor, where there is a good pub.
