Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

Lakeswalkers
08 Aug 2024In the forestry section referred to in a previous review, there is very active tree clearance in progress which has improved the view but considerable care needs to be taken with forestry machinery which is moving very quickly at times. Some clear signposting of the route needs to be organised as the route is not where it was before forestry started and it is not always clear where it now goes.

24 Sep 2021A walk of two halves.
The northern half is quite special, going through a rewilding and biodiversity effort that's really working. Fascinating mix of deciduous forest and wetland plants, with lots of evidence of bird and insect life. There's also a lake where Robert the Bruce is apocryphally said to have tossed in his sword.
Closer to Crianlarich you walk through an enormous pine plantation. Nothing wrong with the walk at all, though it's very steep at times, but it's got that lifeless feel that plantations so often do, with great scars across the landscape where logging or road-building has taken place. There are precious few moments to catch the view. It'll get you there, and there are no other viable paths, but you won't be dying to bring your mother back to experience it.
