23 Jun 2023Very lovely route, easy walking along the Exe Estuary path for most of it. Commando barracks are unusual, and Lympstone very picturesque.
Goosemoor Nature Reserve was exciting in mid-June, with towering foliage - quite muddy in places but not problematically so.
I'd love to walk it in different seasons.

28 Jan 2023This route is mostly on paved surfaces, or on wide wooden bridges crossing marshy/wet lands. There are some points at Lympstone and Exton where you are on narrow Devon lanes with traffic: on the day we walked this, all the drivers were considerate of walkers and cyclists. There is are some short steep stretches around Lympstone village but the route is otherwise flat. Great views of the Exe estuary and Haldon Hills, and places to stop along the way. We wore walking boots as it's been icy in Devon this January but it could easily be done in trainers, and I'd do it again.
(Note: we used the path from the train station carpark along the edge of the estuary which did have some mud and required us to cross the tracks on unmanned level crossing but these can be avoided by walking along Marine Way instead).

26 Oct 2021A largely level route with fine views across the estuary. Much of the route follows the Exe Estuary Trail, which is a shared footpath and cycle trail.
It’s easy to do the return leg by train or bus as the route follows the rail line.
There are numerous access points, the villages en route have plenty of options for refreshments, and there are very good opportunities for bird watching.

10 May 2021This route pretty much follows the Exe Estuary Trail (often signposted route 2), a shared off-road path. As mapped it also uses a few sections of footpaths (such as part of the East Devon Way towards Exmouth), which are largely avoidable by following route 2, which would be my suggestion if you are wheeling or are walking alone and want to stay in more public areas. Lovely views of the Exe Estuary, places to eat and drink in Topsham, Exton, Lympstone and Exmouth.
