Description
This route is nearly the same as Tonpor1. Walking towards Porth, I couldn't find the most direct-looking path on the OS map (used in Tonpor1). Instead, I continued down the track and then onto a footpath just below the houses, heading down the hillside. There are several paths on this hill; if walking towards Porth, join the road near the top of the school car park. If leaving Porth, turn left just before the "Trebanog" sign/Chinese takeaway; the path starts from the side street. Head towards the houses up high

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

29 Sep 2022September 2022. Direction: Tonyrefail to Porth.
Couldn`t find the way past the farms after trying several possibilities. The names of the farms didn`t tie up with anything on my OS map, so in the end I gave up and took a footpath across the moor leading into Trebanos, then down the main road into Porth, which is not an acceptable alternative route.

30 May 2022 (edited 02 Jun 2022)I walked this from Porth. It's a big climb but the views from the top, before descending into Tonyrefail, are amazing. The left turn off the main road through Cymmer is beside the Trebanog roadsign/Chinese takeaway; go slightly left to find the path - look for the green railings (see pictures). Look for the large cairn in picture as you get toward the top of the hill, and turn right on the smaller path, keeping the cairn on your left and the housing estate to your right. The farm road which the route follows led to a farm gate with a notice saying this is private property, so I turned back along the road to where I had joined it, and continued on the path I had been following (i.e. crossing directly over the farm road). This took me to the marked footpath leading to Tonyrefail. I would advise going this way which is easy to follow and avoids the farms.

05 Feb 2022This route is OK, but it could be better-marked between the farms at Glyn and Rhiw-garn. Walking from Tonyrefail, there’s an automatic gate at the entrance to Glyn Farm; if it doesn’t open, there’s a stile and a permissive path sign. From here onwards it was less clear; the stiles corresponded with the right of way on the OS map but there were no markers. I went off-course and ended up in the farmyard of Rhiw-garn-fach; the farmer was friendly and pointed out the access point at the north-end of his field which was “blocked off but you can climb over it”. (It was easy to climb over the low metal barrier.)
Near Trebanog, there are several paths crossing the hillside; the route I’ve marked is roughly the one I took (the most direct one I could find). Make sure you pass just below the houses at the top.
