Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

16 Aug 2022 Summer

I walked from Thornliebank to Pollokshields on a rainy August day.

The advantage of this route is that it passes by the entrance to the Burrell Collection, one of Glasgow’s biggest attractions. Most of the walk is alongside busy roads (good pavement) with only the central section at Shawlands where it finds some quieter streets. For this reason I’ve only given 3 stars.

I did wonder if an alternative route could be made to the east, using green spaces such as Queen’s Park, Auldhouse Park and Mansewood High Park. Perhaps someone who knows the area could create a more interesting, quieter and greener route?.

Review of SlowWays Route Thopol1 (Thornliebank – Pollokshields)
I walked this route on a rainy day in February 2022. It is a very straightforward route which follows the main road from Thornliebank to Shawlands before cutting through some quiet backstreets, emerging onto the busy Minard Road at Crossmyloof and continuing down the equally busy Darnley Road to end at Pollokshields East Railway Station. The quiet sections of the route provide some very welcome relief from an otherwise very noisy walk. Also, thankfully, there are good pavements all the way. Some interesting landmarks along the way include "Hagrid's Hut" in the middle of the big roundabout at the corner of Pollok Park, periodic views of the Auldhouse Burn and the White Cart Water and an interesting wrought iron footbridge over the railway. All in all, a perfectly satisfactory route but marked down a little because of its heavy dependence on main roads.
