Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.

The route is clear and easy to navigate, following the railway line for most of the way and taking you through some interesting sites. After passing through residential areas in Pollokshaws, the majority of the route is along roads with good pavements, which isn’t particularly scenic but is efficient and with simple terrain....

It does go through fairly built-up industrial areas so it isn’t particularly scenic – but it is functional, easy to navigate, and connects well to other routes or transport links....

As others have said, a straightforward urban route that largely hugs the railway line but does link up some interesting sites. Similar to the routes to the north and south, it is easy to link up with other routes, or combine with public transport. Walked on a dry day in September....

A straightforward urban route that gets you from A to B through south west Glasgow. Easy to link up with other routes, or combine with public transport. Not particularly picturesque, but you wouldn't expect it to be!...

It's easy to follow and hugs the railway line for most of the route, before branching off south of Pollokshaws to stay in the residential area. The rest is along roads with good pavements, so it's simple terrain albeit not the most inspiring at times! You pass Thornliebank station and from there end up on the main high street....

A quick and easy route, walked in September 2024 from the lovely Glasgow Station to Pollockshields. There's a nice view over the river at the start, before moving through some industrial areas, but this is necessary to avoid trainlines and motorways....

Then onto Shields Road, which when I walked this route (Jan 24) was closed to cars because of major works at the railway bridge....

Then a couple of pleasant park sections - Auldhouse Park is particularly pleasant....

At the time, the road crossing the railway had just closed for a year, but access for pedestrians and cyclists has been maintained. After the railway, parts of the route were a bit run down/industrial, but because they were busy, they didn't feel in any way threatening....

Even though it was right next to the motorway, it was screened by trees which kept the noise and pollution down a bit. The off-road path continued with a bridge over the motorway, then over the railway, eventually bringing me out to the cemetery and crematorium, at about half way through the route. A friend who lives close by joined me for the second half of the route and we soon started through Bellahouston Park. After crossing the railway and the M77, we proceeded along a surprisingly pleasant bit of cycle track right next to the motorway but screened by trees with a reasonable viewpoint at the end....

Good on a sunny day, definitely not the nicest walk in Glasgow as it passes through some slightly more industrial areas, still worth seeing this side though!...

It’s a little indirect, but it means crossing the Clyde on a lovely traffic free bridge, with a short walk along the riverside to the meeting point at Glasgow Central station. Overall its a good route for Slow Ways....

I did wonder if an alternative route could be made to the east, using green spaces such as Queen’s Park, Auldhouse Park and Mansewood High Park....

This is a rather noisy but nevertheless interesting route which makes good use of some urban green spaces. The route then heads through Govanhill, crossing the lively Victoria Road, passing the important community amenity of Govanhill Park and travelling down a rather neglected stretch of Cathcart Road....

Review of SlowWays Route Gifpol1 (Giffnock – Pollokshields)....

It is a very straightforward route which follows the main road from Thornliebank to Shawlands before cutting through some quiet backstreets, emerging onto the busy Minard Road at Crossmyloof and continuing down the equally busy Darnley Road to end at Pollokshields East Railway Station....

This road leads directly to the Clyde via a road crossing over the busy King’s Inch Road and the path through Clyde View Park. Once out of the park, the route turns right to follow the walkway adjacent to the Clyde. However it is easy enough to go around the cemetery if preferred by taking Berryknowes Road then Paisley Road West. The route emerges from the cemetery at “Halfway” and follows Paisley Road West for a few hundred metres before entering Bellahouston Park. It then takes a rather circuitous route (presumably following the core path) before leaving the park at Dumbreck Road....

Review of SlowWays Route Polgla 1 (Pollokshields to Glasgow). It is a very straightforward route which links a suburb in the south of Glasgow with the city centre via a rather neglected area which is dominated by motorway flyovers....
