Description
This is a Slow Ways route connecting Stubbington and Gosport. This route (StuGos Two) goes via Alver Valley Country Park for a more direct journey, with more variety and reduced urban/road travel. We cut off the Lee-on-Solent coastal stretch, but still benefit from the Stokes Bay section for your dose of fresh sea breeze.
Additional benefits of going through Alver Valley include many sites of historical and cultural significance, as well as the beautiful nature on display throughout the park.
You could stop off for refreshments at the "Coffee Cup" and "Bayside Cabin", or start your journey from Kingfisher Caravan Park or The Diving Museum / No.2 Battery West.
Do check local reports as the River Alver occasionally busts its banks. We will upload a variation of this route which avoids the affected areas (stay on the west side of Apple Dumpling Bridge and go through Browndown Common)

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

17 Aug 2024Plenty of wide open paths along the seafront. Would be good for bike rides. Mainly out of town.

14 Aug 2024We did this route rather than Stugos One in order to maximise off-road walking. The router through Alver Valley might not be a coastal path, but it offers good access, well made paths and has no traffic.
There were some improvement underway to the path at Stokes Bay, but the diversions weren't an inconvenience.
Fort Gilkicker also had a diversion in place.
Haslar Road was a bit of a memory as it was a hot day. Dead straight. No Shade. The ferry from Gosport was just around the corner and brought a good conclusion to the walk.

12 Aug 2024Quickly got out of town onto a shared, pedestrian and cycle loop which is a gravel path nice and wide with open grassland to each side. Lots of birds and wildlife about.

18 Feb 2024A good mixed walk with seaside walking, Country Park walking. Cafes for refreshments on route. There are connecting buses at each end and bus stops not far from the route making it a good one day walk. All in all a well thought out route.
