Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

08 Oct 2023Review of Slow Ways route Stitul one (Stirling to Tullibody)
I walked this route in reverse (i.e. from Tullibody to Stirling) on a damp afternoon in September 2023. The route begins in the centre of Tullibody and makes its way out to the main Stirling Road via some quiet back streets. It then follows this road out of the town as far as the Dumyat Park Roundabout. Up until this point, the route follows a wide pavement next to the road. However after crossing the roundabout (with paved crossing points provided) the route heads “off road” onto what I assume was the old A907, running alongside the “new” A907 for a considerable proportion of the total distance. The walking here is pleasant with plenty of dog-walkers, day trippers and cyclists making use of the excellent traffic-free surface. All too soon however, the adjacent road is rejoined at a busy roundabout where the A907 intersects with the A91. Once again the local planners are to be congratulated for including paved crossing places here (albeit without lights), and also the pavement which accompanies the final section of the A907 as it rounds Abbey Craig and enters the suburb of Causewayhead. The traveller should watch out here for a lovely little roadside well bearing the inscription “THE WELL OF REST 1880 FREE TO ALL”. After the traffic noise from the A907, the turning into the much quieter Ladysneuk Road comes as a huge relief. There is then a lovely section through the village of Cambuskenneth before a crossing of the River Forth (via the traffic-free Cambuskenneth Bridge) and a short section through increasingly busy streets to the end of the route at Stirling Rail Station. All in all, a very pleasant route, well-mapped, easy to follow, along safe surfaces suitable for all non-motorised travellers with much of interest along the way. Just a bit of traffic noise in places.

17 Jul 2021This route (part of National Cycle Route 76) crosses the Forth by a footbridge to visit the picturesque village of Cambuskenneth (known for its artists' colony and medieval abbey and orchards) and then heads north towards the Abbey Craig (known for its landmark Wallace Monument).
There is a 1km section on pavements alongside the A907 (which can be quite busy, but 40mph limit) as far as the A907/A91 roundabout. After this it follows the route of the old road which is between 20m and 50m south of the modern main road. There is a good deal of vegetation in between so the traffic is largely out of site, but you never escape the noise. There are good views of the Ochil escarpment.
