Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

05 Nov 2023Some really lovely views along this route. Only one section with a busy road to cross. Some sections not easy for less mobile walkers but nothing too difficult.

31 Jul 2023The first part of the walk from South Cave to High Hunsley is lovely, mainly on the Wolds Way footpath. The second part from High Hunsley to the Beverly Bypass is OK but mostly either walking on country roads or on pavement along bigger roads, so not as scenic as other routes in the area and you do need to be mindful of traffic (particularly the road walk from High Hunsley to Walkington). The final stretch from the bypass to Beverly involves a bit of an odd walk across a golf course but otherwise easy to follow. Overall a fine route if you want to walk South Cave-Beverly, but I would recommend other routes that stay more on off-road footpaths if you have other start/end points available to you.
Accessibility-wise this is a mix of off-road gravel and paved paths, with a few short steep ascents and descents on the footpaths. The available GPX is accurate and easy to follow.

27 Mar 2022From South Cave the route soon joins the Yorkshire Wolds Way. This is well signposted and it’s worth following the sign posts as there are a couple of places where it can be confusing as to which path to take. The first part of the route is predominantly wooded with wide dirt tracks, making it easy under foot. Once you join the road (quiet country lane), you soon leave the Yorkshire Wolds Way and head to Walkington and then on to Beverley. The route into Beverley crosses the Beverley Westwood. As you enter the Westwood it can be confusing as to which direction to go. The route takes you across the golf course, so be careful of low flying balls. If you want to avoid this, turn right as you enter the Westwood, carry on until you reach the road and turn left. You’ll soon rejoin the designated route. A significant portion of the route is on quiet country roads, compensated with views of the wolds and farmlands. At the end of the walk it’s well worth making a detour into Beverley town centre.
