Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

22 Dec 2024I completed this walk yesterday walking from Sedgley. It was one of those wet and dreary days that almost made me wonder why I bothered at the start of the walk, but before long I was pleasantly surprised at the interest and beauty along the way. In particular, the Wren's Nest - a fascinating area which is undoubtedly the highlight of the walk and in my opinion elevates it to five stars, for to give it any less would do the walk a disservice.
There are a few reasons that made me think about dropping it to four stars. There are plenty of steps on this walk, some of them requiring care when wet and some are particularly steep. The sections of urban walking at either end of the walk are a necessity, and thankfully over relatively quickly.
Even on a wet day I really enjoyed the walk and would definitely do it again. Perhaps next time to take more time around the Wren's Nest to explore the geology further. The views from the top are also impressive. Fully recommended - top marks.

14 Nov 2021It isn't long from the bustling centre of Sedgley, that you leave Tipton Road and are soon in the quiet residential streets. Having navigated some of these, an alleyway takes you down to a green area with paths which leads to Parkes Hall Pool. You cross Parkes Hall Road and enter Mons Hill and then Wrens Nest Nature Reserve. The paths are dirt trails but are well marked and are relatively even. There are information boards and regular lookout spots. As you get near to the south end, the view extends towards West Bromwich and even central Birmingham. There are a set of steep steps at the end. They can be hard to spot when coming from the Dudley end, but they are marked by a post on the right hand side. The final section of the walk is pretty well all pavement into Dudley. Having walked all of them, I'd have to say this is one of my favourite Dudley Slow Ways. It's direct, safe, offroad and the Wren's Nest Section is a really lovely walk.
