Description
A walkable, safer version of Rugyox One. Leaving Rugeley to the north east via the Trent and Mersey Canal before emerging near Rugeley Trent Valley Railway Station. You walk through open countryside near Colton and make your way to the village of Hill Ridware where there is a pub/cantonese restaurant. You follow lanes to Pipe Ridware and then turn north and follow a track (avoiding a field which sometimes has a bull in it) up Hunger Hill. There is a little time to take in views before descending into Hamstall Ridware where there is another pub. More lane walking leads to a footpath and eventually more paths to Yoxall. This route is based on the walk I did when attempting Rugyox One

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

07 Jul 2021Heading north east out of Rugeley you soon find yourself in some rather charming countryside, seemingly on the site of land reclaimed from mining. The route after is through open farmland with the path clearly marked. Hill Ridware is the first settlement you reach and has a pub which serves Cantonese food. The next section is along a relatively quiet lane but there is no verge so some caution is needed. As the route hits Pipe Ridware it leaves The Way for the Millennium, which you have just joined, in order to take a route north via Hamstall Ridware. This section was passable but the stiles are in terrible repair, paths are overgrown and I can't say I found this section enjoyable. The views from the top of Hunger Hill were pleasant but that was about it. Getting into Hamstall Ridware (site of the second pub of the journey) you then have to follow a lane where the car is king. I wouldn't say I felt in danger but I felt I had to be at full attention. As soon as you get off the lane the walk improves. Having crossed yet another stile that requires the legs of Peter Crouch but the body of Ronnie Corbett I found the route joining the Way for the Millennium which I had left in Pipe Ridware. I wondered if the best way between Rugeley and Yoxall would be based on that walk but with the added rest stops to make it a Slow Way. I also wonder whether the existence of that route has discouraged people from walking the local paths. Or is that just the local farmers? I flattened my phone battery reporting rights of way issues on the Ramblers App. This walk follows the Way for the Millennium into Yoxall High Street past a shop and two pubs. I've approved this route because it is "a" way and it can be walked but it barely passed and I shall submit a design for a better way.
