Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

Quiet but direct route avoiding the busy A roads, almost all roads in fact. Decent suburban footpaths/alleys generally with greenery to one side or the other, although it was too dark to really appreciate that.

I walked on a winter night (before 5pm!) so can confirm some of the paths and alleys are not lit and those which are may have sizeable dark gaps between lamp posts. I did use my phone torch. No gates or stiles but there are some hills, and unfortunately at least two sets of steps - although you can avoid those at St Mary's Church - which also end at an uncomfortable road crossing. Just head a little south from the church and back up via a slightly hidden path just in front of the school opposite - see daylight photo.

P.S. ReiRed 2 is almost identical to this route, not sure quite why it's there.

Direct, pleasant with minimal road walking. Can’t ask for much more in an urban area.

I walked this on a warm morning, from Reigate to Redhill. It had rained a little in the past week.

From Reigate's busy high street (photo #1), the route soon became a well maintained path between a wall and a fence (photo #2) up to the church. After crossing the cemetery (photo #3), it crosses the A25 which was easy to cross, and continued along more very straight public footpaths (photo #4, #5), with some greenery to the left and right. After crossing the North Downs Line with a bridge (photo #6), it then goes along a shared cycle/footpath (photo #7) to some residential streets, before one more dirt path (photo #8) to end up at Redhill's shopping district and the station (photo #9).

It's direct, with well maintained paths, and fairly green. Pretty good for an urban route.

Good connection from Reigate to Redhill, avoiding most main roads. Not particularly exciting as walks go though.
