Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

I tried this route today but from Netherene towards Redhill and as with the previous review struggled when it got to Deans Lane. It is quite a quick road and in difficult weather conditions felt very daunting. I gave up in the end and managed to get to Shepherds Hill and then across the M23 to get the bus. I will be sure to try again with your suggestion in the reverse. I will try Rednet 1 which although a bit longer hopefully avoids busy roads.

I also tried to avoid Netherene Lane on the way out of Netherene (there is a small carpark for the block of flats and then a field and a path across it) and tried to cross the field to join the path but was told it was actually someone's garden! A bit unsure about Netherene's paths and what is open and what isn't.

A nice walk and certainly more direct than the other way to Netherne. However it takes in a part of Deans Lane which is national speed limit, with no pavement. It’s very dangerous. Instead I’d suggest walking from Redhill along Frenches Road, down Battlebridge Lane and then up School Hill to the A23. Once on the A23 walk to Shepherds Hill where there is a footpath that takes you right into Netherne (SCC footpath number 614). Alternatively you could take this route but, instead of crossing the M25 near Rockshaw Road, head west along SCC bridleway no. 97 which takes you to Shepherds Hill, allowing you to pick up the path to Netherne.
