Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

16 Jun 2023This route starts at Ffestiniog in a zigzaggy way out of the town. I saw no reason for the winding character of the route there.
When it reaches Tanygrisiau, it suggests going straight ahead but there is no through route. Walkers should turn right then left towards a bus stop as shown on the first attached photo and follow paved roads. Similarly, when it comes to turning off the paved road into a footpath, walkers should wait for a waymark as shown on the second photo. The route seems very inaccurate in this section because it suggests that walkers should not cross a railway line until after the Tanygrisiau reservoir. I found no such path there. I believe the route should follow a marked footpath, cross the railway line and walk alongside the reservoir.
When passing through Dduallt station, there are wooden steps to cross and walkers should then continue along the line under a bridge. There is no other obvious way there that would correspond to the porbla one route.
The route continues towards Llyn Mair lake where it is necessary to walk along somewhat busy B4410 but the traffic is not heavy and there is space on the edge most of the time if needed. A part of the road can be avoided if you take a forest footpath leading up to Tan-y-bwlch station.
The route is not accurate at Rhyd again. Walkers need to enter the village and look out for a waymark shown on the third photo.
Another inaccuracy is before reaching 12th km from Ffestiniog. A footpath emerges from a forest and goes straight ahead when in fact there is no continuation. It is necessary to follow a waymark as shown on the fourt photo and to turn right into a gravel road.
Yet another inaccuracy is between 14th and 15th km from Ffestiniog where walkers should not attempt to cross the railway line at Penrhyndendraeth station in my view.
The rest is mostly acceptable.

30 Aug 2023If you reviewed your own replacement route it would have a better chance of being walked (and eventually verified). There is no rule against reviewing ones own routes - in fact SlowWay actively encourages it.
