Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

15 Jul 2021This route makes for a really pleasant walk and there is almost no road walking. We walked it starting at Stainburn. It leaves Stainburn along a cart track that passes through lovely undulating countryside eventually meeting Riffa Wood. Apart from a fallen tree over a gate, the route is easy going. The route descends through the wood on a part paved ancient trackway which fords the river at the bottom. Stepping stones (of sorts) prevent wet feet! After the river crossing the path bears left diagonally across the field towards a large round tree in the distance. It is not obvious and easily missed because the main path continues straight on up the hill. At the tree it bears right along a good track but which slowly deteriorates over Leafield Bank to be a grassy path. After a short somewhat muddy section it meets a North-South path at very well marked path crossing. Turning sharp left the path goes along field boundaries, crosses the B6161 (great care needed because the hedge is the edge of the road and there is no verge here) then passes through the middle of a large field heading for the river Bridge at Pool.
