Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

01 Mar 2023Always a good walk along the canal, and easy to follow. Stopped at the great Granary cafe in Linlithgow for a coffee at the end. Lots of things to do/see in Linlithgow if you're interested in history.

14 Nov 2022Review of SlowWays Route Pollin one (Polmont to Linlithgow)
I walked this route in November 2022. It is a simple and direct route which mostly follows the towpath along the Union Canal (apart from an uphill section from Polmont at the start and a downhill section to Linlithgow town centre at the end). The highlight of the route is the spectacular Avon Aqueduct which carries the canal and the towpath 26 metres above the river below. The route map is accurate. The route is easy to walk and mostly easy to cycle (cyclists are asked to dismount before crossing the aqueduct). However the towpath is narrow in places and there are stepped sections in Linlithgow which may present problems for some users (although there are alternatives to the stepped section).
