Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

24 Oct 2023A good varied route, much along footpaths but also uses mostly quiet country lanes. The route follows for much of its way The Erme PlymTrail. The way in and out of Plymstock town centre was generally quite good utilizing tarmac lanes in residential areas and paths through wooded sections. There are good refreshment stops, a fine pub at Brixton, a pub and cafe at Yealmpton and a pub at Ermington. On the day I walked it in late October I found the path across the field to the north of Brixton at the minor road SX 55093 52495 down to the village clear but muddy. This was however after heavy rain. From Scotch Fir Plantation SX 56342 52519 to Galofen Plantation SX 56520 52670 the Right of Way crosses a field. The landowner has signs instructing you not to use the vehicle track arounf the field but stick to the R.O.W. This takes you diagonally across a ploughed, seeded and very muddy field. It is unmarked apart from a sign at the top of the hill which was lying on the ground. So not encouraging. There is also a legal notice at Galofen. However this is a right of way despite clear discouragement to use it. It is in fact part of the Erme Plym trail. There was also a footpath closure north of Yealmpton at SX 57133 52523 into the village at SX 57706 51874. No dates or reasons were given at either end. This is a substantial distance. However I walked around the minor road to the east and found this quite and safe. I have included this route below. A nice easy walk in and out of Ivybridge using the shared footpath/cycleway along the river. This route would easily be 4*, if not for these inconveniences and path closures.
