Description
This route avoids walking down the busy Kingspit Lane but follows the well-used path past Montpelier Farm and across Brinkshole Heath as suggested by @BecciWest. The Serpent Trail now follows this path and is well way-marked, not along Kingspit Lane as is still shown on the OS Explorer map. Apart from this the route is exactly the same as PETBIL One which I tested on 13-05-2022 and needs no other changes

Demotive
09 Oct 2022Worth it for the final section into Petworth alone!
I'd second the point about the steps up-and-over the A29, which is was a little overgrown and brambly at the time, but overall this really is a great walk.

14 May 2022I thought this was a glorious walk which probably trumps PETBIL Two by leaving Billingshurst by a more amenable path.
The route is along field paths and woodland paths, picking up sections of the Sussex Diamond Way, the Wey South Path and the Serpent Trail along the way. It is away from any major roads and so is very tranquil. There are some steps at the Billingshurst end where the footpath crosses the busy A29, plus the odd stile. The main obstacles are gates.. The kissing gates at the Petworth end are a bit of a squeeze. There was one small boggy section near Lordings Rough where branches have been laid across, so beam-balancing skills would helpful or waterproof boots.
The route is about 14km long and it passes no refreshment facilities the whole way. However, it does pass through several bluebell woods. The flowers were largely spent in mid May, so the second half of April would be the perfect time to do this walk.
