This route avoids Oxford Street, preferring instead to use the roads parallel and to the north, which are slightly greener, and less crowded. A few points of interest including Wigmore Hall and Cavendish Square

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

24 Sep 2024A thoroughly enjoyable walk which I used to get to Wigmore Hall. Safe, direct and very easy to follow. Crossing suggestions could be useful at busier times but I didn't find them to be essential. Full marks.

20 Jul 2022I walked this route from Oxford Circus and found it really enjoyable. No huge complaints here, and I found it a really good route.
It’s not the route’s fault really, I just hate the roads around Hyde Park and find them really unpleasant to walk among. The route itself is perfectly plotted and balances competing interests nicely to connect you on foot where you’re trying to go!.

17 Jul 2022Straightforward, easy to follow route that avoids the crowds. Flat, with fairly wide pavements and a reasonable number of drop kerbs. I followed this in the middle of a sweltering day and it was an excellent alternative to cramming onto public transport, with the southern side of the route in plenty of shade.
Quite a few blue plaques to spot, and potential diversions to Marylebone or Hyde Park if you have time to explore. And if you arrive at Paddington with time to spare before your train I’d recommend The Victoria, a London boozer as the route turns onto Sussex Place where you can grab a drink and leave to head to your platform about 15-20 mins before departure.

18 May 2022I have walked this route many times, in both directions, even before SlowWays existed. I also much more prefer this over Padoxf 1, and have little more to add to the first reviewer.

06 May 2022A solid route which avoids Oxford Street, but is still direct.
I walked Oxford Circus to Paddington.
Just behind Oxford Street is Cavendish Square, a large open-to-all grassy square, good for picnics.
The route goes along Wigmore Street, past the Wigmore Hall. Around Marylebone Lane there is a pleasant dining scene.
Turn up to Manchester Square, there is an art gallery here (the Wallace Collection), worth stopping in.
Then through Portman Square and across the Edgware Road. From here the route follows the same way as Padoxf One through Hyde Park Square to the destination at Paddington.
I found it a quick and easy way to walk, far preferable to me than walking along Oxford Street, which was extremely crowded.
By following the route line as drawn, including crossing the road where specified, it *should* be a step free walk, with dropped kerbs throughout. There are one or two undropped kerbs otherwise.
