This is a brilliant little Slow Way - maybe the very best possible way to get between Oxford Circus and Paddington if you're not in a rush....

Currently quite a lot of building work at Oxford Circus end of this route, but still nice to get off the main road and see some new sights....

This is a nice route, avoiding the crowds of Oxford Street and with lots of interesting architecture and side streets to get distracted by....

As to quicker -there is so much to see it's difficult not to slow down, eat Chinese food and enjoy the walk....

Happily I was quickly able to turn off Carnaby Street and work out a quieter way, PHOTO 2, AND 3. A lot of the route is fully pedestrianised and the only serious traffic is a short stretch on Charing Cross Road, PHOTO 8....

Walk this routeNot an intrinsic problem with the route which I've walked before, though only in parts. I was just foiled by the packed crowds in Carnaby Street which would have ruined a great walk for me....

A smorgasbord of fancy architecture to ogle - the art deco GWR building at Paddington, Regency terraced townhouses, Hyde Park Gardens Mews (dreamy!), the "London Chancery" AKA ex-American Embassy (is that gold plating?), Claridges and the top-hatted doormen, etc, etc. Grosvenor Square is a big enough park to feel repiste from the traffic....

Walked from Oxford Circus to Charing Cross on a drizzly Saturday which meant a lot of the photos came out blurry. A straightforward, quick and direct route, very easy to follow. Very busy, particularly with pedestrians, so not the best for those seeking to avoid bustle and noise....
Hugh Hudson
There is a very minor plotting error at the Euston end - the obvious path across the Friends House Garden to Endsleigh Gardens goes straight on south from the Euston Road crossing....

Thoroughly enjoyable but sadly a failure trying to leave Trafalgar Square. The way through is closed off and the diversion takes you further west than than makes sense to walk through Leicester Square. Will be happy to revise this when the passage is reopened...

As a visitor to London, I was impressed by how this concise route struck a balance between showcasing some of the most iconic places between Charing Cross and Oxford Circus, and also highlighting some of the quieter spaces that are hidden amid the bustle of the neighborhood. I did have to detour down Whitcomb Street due to the passage to Trafalgar Square near the National Gallery being closed for construction, but otherwise, it was smooth sailing. This is a walk that I would recommend to anyone I know planning on spending time in London....
Miles Howard
I set off for this walk from Oxford Circus towards the less frantic end of Oxford street, then into Hyde park before finishing at Knightsbridge station....

A thoroughly enjoyable walk which I used to get to Wigmore Hall. Safe, direct and very easy to follow. Crossing suggestions could be useful at busier times but I didn't find them to be essential....

Historic buildings, museums, squares, tiny quiet passages, a real slice of London, much of which without crowds....

Very straight forward easily navigated route; although today (June 23) there was a big event in Hyde Park blocking the route (see pictures) but it was easy enough to walk around back onto the mapped path....

If you have no reason to go down Oxford Street, this is absolutely the correct route to take!...

Derick Rethans added Knioxf three, a new walk from Knightsbridge to Oxford Circus
Walk this routeIt's a good and direct route. But Oxford Street on a Saturday is too slow, even for slow ways :-). It also makes no sense to walk the route around Marble Arch as this one does, as it's not a walkable part really. Much better would be to cross right next to Marble Arch....
Derick Rethans
One is the lovely Hyde Park, and the other half the streets south of Oxford Circus, but a lot less busy (except for the short section on Regent's Street). I prefer this over Knioxf 1 & 2....
Derick Rethans
It is a lovely route through the best of London, past Buckingham Palace, through Green Park, across Piccadilly past the Ritz Hotel....
Bostal Boy
Follows a lot of main roads but will also take you past some of the main central London sites. Very easy to follow....
Dannyash
I think this is the much better option of the two OXFOCHA routes. It takes much quieter and in my view more interesting streets....

So if you're heading north, just go straight to Speaker's Corner and cross straight to Marble Arch....

I've dinged it a star because I found the Pied Bull Yard, by the Holborn end, closed when I walked it, so the route isn't a 24 hour route!...

I’m a huge fan of Oxfocha one, but this route continued to surprise me with great features! I especially liked walking through Soho and coming up on Oxford Circus from behind! I did find that the passage from Trafalgar Square directly to the west of the National Gallery was closed when I walked, but I just went one block down Whitcomb Street (the next street to the east) no problem....
mtormey
It’s not the route’s fault really, I just hate the roads around Hyde Park and find them really unpleasant to walk among. The route itself is perfectly plotted and balances competing interests nicely to connect you on foot where you’re trying to go!...
mtormey
And if you arrive at Paddington with time to spare before your train I’d recommend The Victoria, a London boozer as the route turns onto Sussex Place where you can grab a drink and leave to head to your platform about 15-20 mins before departure....

This is a good route, and although I've also walked between these places many times, I'd never thought myself to go this way. Very little greenery though....
Derick Rethans
It's an OK route, but Oxford Street is sooooo slow. I much more prefer Padoxf two, which follows a lot less busy streets....

Lynn Jackson added Knioxf two, a new walk from Knightsbridge to Oxford Circus
Walk this routeBe aware that there are regular Hyde Park events that will prevent you from following this exact route The Park. I won't give a lower rating however because it is a lovely route; just be aware that you'll need to walk around the closed-off areas and that may take a few more minutes....
Lynn Jackson
My walking companion and I were unable to use Knioxf 1 because an event in Hyde Park had fenced a large part of the route off. And because a heatwave had hit over 30 degC, after Oxford Street we were grateful for the trees that lined the path. If you need shade, this is the route to use....
Lynn Jackson
Very nice Route with some green space....

I have walked this route many times, in both directions, even before SlowWays existed. I also much more prefer this over Padoxf 1, and have little more to add to the first reviewer....

Jane Taylor added Padoxf two, a new walk from Paddington Station to Oxford Circus
Walk this routeA solid route which avoids Oxford Street, but is still direct. Just behind Oxford Street is Cavendish Square, a large open-to-all grassy square, good for picnics....
Jane Taylor
The route starts by turning off Oxford Street into Soho, and eventually arrives at Soho Square, before turning back to Oxford Street which it immediately crosses over. Hanway Street is a useful back street to know if you want to stay away from the crowds at Tottenham Court Road station; given its proximity to the big retail area, it remains quiet and surprisingly ungentrified....
Jane Taylor
This is a fantastic walk through some of the most famous parts of London - Trafalgar Square, Leicester Square, Piccadilly Circus, Soho, Carnaby Street ......

A no nonsense but thoroughly enjoyable route which follows Oxford Street for the vast majority of it....

Walk this routeThese are two places I've walked between many times before so it's not as if I had no opinion prior to this walk, but every decision made about how to route it, I could not fault....
David Sanderson
I agree with the previous reviewer - definitely a route of two halves, with the quieter section through the Hyde Park estate from Paddington to Marble Arch, and the more vibrant section along Oxford Street. There are plenty of refreshment options, although the route isn't long, and the prices can be - well, it's an expensive area! All of the route is paved with no barriers that would present difficulties for wheels....
Martin McGovern
The route loses a star for the indirect route around (rather than across) Green Park....
David Sanderson
This route takes you through Trafalgar Square, Leicester Square, Picadilly Circus, Regent Street, and Oxford Circus. It’s a London tourist’s dream route! Entirely on pavements, relatively direct, accessible, and interesting, a lovely route if I ever saw one!...
mtormey
The route through Green Park is not as direct as it could be (you could take a direct diagonal path instead of following the edge of the park), but it’s not the end of the world, I suppose!...
mtormey
Otherwise, I had no navigational troubles and thought it was a perfectly pleasant and lovely route!...
mtormey
I’m sure a quieter route exists, but for directness, you can’t go wrong with this one!...
mtormey
I walked this route from Oxford Circus to Euston and I enjoyed it. It’s a pretty simple walk, following quieter cross-streets as it zig-zags across Fitzrovia. Navigation was easy and the routing was accurate....

from Paddington to Marble Arch, the route follows largely quiet residential streets....

This route cuts straight through the UK Monopoly board's most expensive property - Mayfair. And you can witness this for yourself - some of the most expensive shops in the UK line this route, along with Buckingham Palace. And what might just be London's narrowest pub....

If struggling to cross Great Portland Street on Riding House Street, there is a zebra crossing at Langham Street (one street north of the route). Similarly, there is a safe crossing over New Cavendish Street at Great Titchfield Street (one street east of the route)....

An alternative route (if walking from Charing Cross) is to cross to Traflagar Square at the end of Duncannon, take the raised walkway in front of the National Gallery, turn right up Whitcomb Street until rejoining the main route. Then again at Piccadilly Circus, instead of walking up Regent Street, an alternative is to take Glasshouse, Air, Golden Square, and Kingly rejoining Regent Street at Great Marlborough Street....
