28 Jan 2024 Winter

I walked this on a dry and slightly sunny morning, from Oxshott to Leatherhead. It had rained some in the previous week.

The first part out of Oxshott is along an annoying road (photo #1), where you have to cross a few times because the pavement is only on one side. When you've left the road, which is not *unsafe*, the route goes through lovely woods (photo #2). The paths were a bit sumpy (photo #3), and on the clay bits, fairly slippery (photo #4). But there weren't many puddles at first.

After crossing Kingston Road into Ashtead Common, the path narrows, and was often fairly muddy (photo #6, #7). I bet that in summer it would be much better though. It wasn't too bad though. After this lovely section, you start to hear the M25 more and more, and eventually you cross under the A243/A244 roundabout (photo #8), and then with a bridge over the M25 (photo #9). On the other side, the route goes through the residential streets of Letterhead (photo #10, #11) to end up at the finish at the station.

It's a good route — with the minus points the noise of the M25, and the walk out of Oxshott.

23 Dec 2022 Winter

I walked from Leatherhead to Oxshott on a showery day.
Out of the station and along a nice cycle/walking path to a road which leads to a bridge over the M25 and then through a coppice and underpasses to Ashstead common. A beautiful woodland walk with good paths, It had rain a lot recently and there was mud and puddles, not deep but a bit slippery on the clay. The sound of the road is a shame. Across the Kingston Road at a crossing there are more woods with an open character and equally lovely, even in winter. These woods are the majority of the walk but unfortunately you get to Oxshott along a horrid road where the pavement keeps ending making the pedestrian cross from one side to another and back again. Oxshott would be a nice place to stop if it wasn't for the noise, smell and sight of so many cars.
But, overall a lovely walk which can only be better in good weather.
