Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

06 Jun 2025Slightly longer than the other routes from Stanford on Avon onwards, but well worth the effort for the combination of rural - including parts of the Nene Way - industrial and city walking.
Again the mapping tool takes a few imaginative leaps so be aware of the actual paths through eg the wonderfully named Orton Longueville.
I didn't spot any places for lunch before Peterborough so perhaps stock up in Oundle where there is no shortage of cafes, bakeries etc and a street market every Thursday.
The route crosses the A605 on three occasion so care is required. It's terribly easy to miss the access point to the A605 from the fruit farm so be watchful.
I saw many swans on the River Nene including one sitting on three eggs. It's a glorious way to finish the route and the city appears as if from nowhere. The mainline station is some 10 minutes from the river.

01 Jul 2023Lots of walking on tarmac. You cross the A605 3 times, the one nearest Peterborough is the worst for seeing traffic and its wide, the other 2 were fine. There are steps at Oundle to cross the river and get into Ashton, no stiles but a few narrow swing gates. Bridge is missing along the Nene in Peterborough so there is a small detour via the Boathouse.
