Help connect Peterborough

Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.

Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.

Give a hike and help get a for every one of Peterborough’s Slow Ways.

Latest Updates

From here I was following joint cycle and pedestrian pathways to the villages of Glinton and Northborough before reaching Market Deeping....

Walk this route

It soon changed to road walking which is why I have only given this two stars. With little to break the journey it became quite gruelling only getting more built up towards the end as you approach Peterborough....

Walk this route

You cross the A605 3 times, the one nearest Peterborough is the worst for seeing traffic and its wide, the other 2 were fine. There are steps at Oundle to cross the river and get into Ashton, no stiles but a few narrow swing gates. Bridge is missing along the Nene in Peterborough so there is a small detour via the Boathouse...

Walk this route

There is probably a slightly more accessible route at the start in Peterborough where you can avoid walking alongside the A15 and down the pedestrianised Bridge Street before turning across and along the River Nene....

Walk this route

This route avoids major roads and uses paths and cycle ways in preference where possible. It is not that scenic, hence only 4 stars. I have run all this route as part of other circular routes, but not all in one go....

Walk this route

No gates or stiles as most of it is National Cycle Network....

Walk this route

Ok walk, could probably change it a bit around Hampton Water to miss walking along the side on London Road/A15 but there is a path its just busy....

Steve

Walk this route

A bridge has been knocked down along the side of the Nene which means a bit of a detour near the rowing lake and a bit of back tracking if starting in Peterborough....

View facilities

Scenic route with mixed terrain, almost all off-road and just a couple of spots where you have to take care with traffic. Out of Peterborough city centre within a mile, the next three or four miles are along the river and through Nene Park....
