15 Aug 2024I was pleasantly surprised to find that this portion of the Monarch's Way is much easier to walk compared to the section further north, where the path is completely overgrown. The route from Northleach to Burford mainly follows very quiet roads, making it quite easy to navigate. This is one of the poshest areas in the UK, with a few charming villages along the way.

15 Aug 2024This is a straightforward route that covers part of the Monarch's Way. As noted in other comments, a large portion of the walk is on roads. The road conditions are very good, with minimal muddy or overgrown paths (at least during the summer). The route ends in a popular tourist town with plenty of pubs and shops for resupply.

06 Aug 2024Three stars for being a practical, direct walk between Northleach and Burford. It's not the prettiest and is mostly on road, but it can be done quickly because of the fact that it's on roads. We walked this from Northleach on a Sunday, so the roads were pretty quiet, with a number of cyclists using the route as well. Only a few times did we have to step out of the way for vehicles, but for most of the way there was enough room. If you miss some of the off-road path, you can keep following the road and get back on the route eventually. There was a part where a herd of cows completely blocked the entrance to the path, so we followed the road instead, which was only a small detour.
Though the road is suitable for wheels, some parts are on very narrow road where you would need to find room to move aside for vehicles, which might be a challenge for wheels.

02 Aug 2024This route is straightforward, mostly level walking along minor roads, though there is off-road into Farmington and between Sherborne and Little Barrington. There is a good shop and cafe / toilet in Sherborne. Off -road paths are well signed and you go through some lovely villages.
Pub in Little Barrington but you will need to retrace your steps if heading to Burford.
Rest of route on minor roads. Lots of shops, cafes and hotels in Burford.

22 Jun 2024This is one of those unusual rural routes, that is suitable for wheels along about 85% of its length. The remaining 15% is on footpaths, which aren't suitable for wheels (stiles, bumpy terrain and the rest) but you could take the road instead.
The roads are extremely quiet - I estimate I saw one vehicle about every ten minutes. The undulating terrain means that the views are nice, and the hedgerows were in flower when I did it, which added to the enjoyment.
So - I'd say this route is for you if you prefer, or don't mind, being on quiet roads. If you're the type of person who has a strong preference for footpaths away from tarmac, then this isn't going to work for you. I examined the OS map and a clear alternative wasn't obvious - without making it a lot longer.
