Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

27 Mar 2022Loved the variety of this slow way including the coast, new forest countryside and through the beautiful town of lymington. The only disappointing section was the approach in to Lymington that was on a path but beside a busy road.

26 Mar 2022Nice, easy to navigate route taking in the full range of landscapes this part of the New Forest has to offer.
To miss out the section along the side of the A337 coming into Lymington, I recommend taking a footpath after the ‘Welcome to Lymington & Pennington’ sign and going via Newlease Copse and across Pennington Common.
Then you get to stay in a similar environment to what you experience in Great Newbridge Copse - the highlight of the route for us and where I took photos.
We did the Lymington to Milford on Sea section of this route as part of the Slow Ways Swarm Weekender.

21 Jan 2022The walk through New Milton and along cliff top to Milford on Sea is very pleasent. Crossing the plougheld field between Lymington Road and Lymington Lane was very muddy at this time of year (January). Once the A337, Milford Road is reached the walk is along a busy main road which is not easy to cross (there is only a footpath on one side). On reaching the High Street the walk becomes more interesting again.

Slow Ways Darren
24 Nov 2021At 14km NewLym One is quite a long Slow Way but this means it has quite a lot going for it!
The start through New Milton is pleasant and offers food, drink and options for picking up supplies. Pretty quickly you end up walking across the beautiful Barton Common (with grazing New Forest ponies) and then down to the coast.
The coast along from Barton is quite rugged and wild and the path is very exposed along the cliff top. The path is currently permissive use from the landowner (the golf course) and there is a lot of evidence of the cliffs eroding and disappearing into the sea below.
Heading inland this route skirts the charming town of Milford on Sea (it really is) and starts to head cross country through some well signposted but narrow and undulating paths. There are so many tree roots to avoid tripping over!
This route then comes to a bit of weak ending after leaving Newbridge Copse where it joins the main A road into Lymington. Although there is a separate pavement away from the road this is still a busy A road with fast traffic - sometimes tricky to cross.
Fortunately everything calms down again as the route continues through the centre of Lymington and its market place and finishes at the train station which runs a regular shuttle back into the New Forest.
