Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

13 Nov 2022I was glad I walked down the steps on this occasion. It is a nice route as mentioned before only on foot though there are other routes including Newgat three and Newgat four which are more accessible. I walked it on a Sunday when the quayside was busy with the market and food stalls and plenty of people. The walk up the other side to Gateshead is quite steep but ok.
All in all a good route.

29 May 2022A good, albeit foot-only route, between the two Tyneside settlements. There are a lot of steps down to the river to cross the Swing Bridge from the castle, however, but it's otherwise a decent walk.

Slow Ways Darren
19 Sep 2021Newgat Two works as a simple Slow Way between Newcastle and Gateshead. The swing bridge is actually quite a quiet route across the Tyne and provides great views of the iconic Tyne Bridge.
Be aware though it is a pretty hilly route - with 50 metres of ascent and descent and lots of steps.
It gets 4 stars because it does what is needed, is on the pavement (and provides great views) and is most likely the best way between these two Cities.
Plenty of facilities at both ends.
