06 May 2026I have only walked the first party of this route but have posted this to highlight a problem with it at the Nethy Bridge end. The first part along the Nethy is delightful. You cross a foot bridge and reach a road which you follow to the east. The route then takes a path which branches off to the left immediately before the speed derestriction signs there is a gate but no fence with a garden immediately on the left. When I walked this a large amoung of garden waste had been deposited on the path. However, shortly after this the path is clear. When in sight of Badanfhuarain (trading as the Lazy Duck) the path ends exactly where the path is marked as ending on the OS 1:25000 map. There are traces of places where people have walked. However, the forest floor is covered with big clumps of heather and fallen branches and the going is not easy. Badanfhuarain is surrounded by a fence which I did not try to cross. I reached the place where the fence turns through 90 degrees. At this point you have to cross an old fence and quite a large ditch. On the other side is Garlyne Moss - its name is a bit of a give away. This was tricky to cross in dry weather and it woud be dangerous to cross if conditions underfoot were wet. After about 100 metres you reach the path from Badanfhuarain. This is a really nice path. Shortly after Badanfhuarain there is a seat on a knoll under a pine tree about 80 metres from the main path which has good views of the Cairngorm massif. The path often looks as if it will disappear but it continues. You go through a gate and eventually come to a fence without a gate. You can see the continuation of the path on the other side of another bog. At this point I turned right for Lettoch, which is a farm. The route described above is definitely one for skilled enthusiasts. It has good views. An alternative would be to continue out of Nethy Bridge on the road as this leads to Lettoch where the route can be picked up. This road is not very busy and is not unpleasant to walk along. The one star takes account of this bit of the route being potentially dangerous. The whole route will probably get many more stars if the modification described above is made.
