Description
Alternative route between Nailsea and Winford. This way retains the good sections of Naiwin One but bypasses the area with poor access and has a more straightforward route into/out of Nailsea.
Please note that this route has a mistake in the version of the GPX I uploaded. I will hopefully get this fixed but in the meantime, in the area north of the airport between Oatfield Farm and Edson’s Farm south of the quarry (w3w quality.nooks.date and canine.locker.dusters), please follow the regularly-used footpath that goes north and west along the side of the quarry. The more southerly route that is currently on there is partially scrubbed up

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

29 Mar 2022A decent enough route, partly through the area around Bristol airport where the path infrastructure tends be a bit variable and cronky. Access is a mixture of stiles, gates and kissing gates. Signage is a little patchy in parts of it. Better at the Nailsea than the Winford end.
And please, for the time being, note especially the starred section of this review below. I uploaded a minorly wrong version of the route I had researched and I don’t yet know how or if I can alter it without putting up a whole other route, which I’d prefer not to do. Apologies
The route is described starting from the Winford end. It heads out of the village through pastures and bridleways on the same route as Naiwin one to the village of Felton, where you arrive into the lane via someone’s back garden. There is a pub at the crossroads.
From there, between w3w silks.plenty.boat and bless.shed.return, it routes west through a field to a path around the back of an old quarry to the A38. This path had been cleared recently when I walked through it but has the look of one that may get overgrown with brambles and nettles in the summer. If that is the case, I recommend taking the route north and west around the quiet lane (with a cut through across the little pony pastures to take off a corner) instead. It gets you to the same place fine.
The A38 crossing is Ok but requires care. It is a very busy road. After that the way uses farm tracks with views around, including of planes taking off and landing at the airport, and a short section of quietish road, before heading into woodland.
***Here I made a mistake with the version of the route I uploaded. The one I put up goes west and north through a scrubbed over area but it is much easier and less effort to turn north at w3w quality.nooks.date and follow the regularly used footpath that the turns west along the edge of the quarry, rejoining the path at canine.locker.dusters***
From here on it is a fine walk down into Nailsea past an old quarry, through woodland and across fields. The tunnel under the railway can be a bit of a swamp in the wet, especially if there are cattle in the fields. Take the path west and the lane instead between w3w boat.bats.insist and dozen.always.jumps to avoid it if necessary.
