Description

From Central Milton Keynes station to Newport Pagnell going through one of the best city parks in Milton Keynes and England. Route takes you through the city centre, then through wonderful Campbell Park, along the canal popular walk, then joining Willen Lakes park at viewing point, on past Tongwell Lake, over M1 motorway, along riverside into the centre of Newport Pagnell.

The route uses redways and local paths. Milton Keynes is designed to be accessible to all. There is always a dropped curb, never just stairs, ramps and maybe stairs as well. The redways are cycling and pedestrian highways and they join with lots of minor paths. Redways are used by cyclists, pedestrians, horse riders, and food delivery robots. Yellow bollards marks the end or a junction of a redway. Normal keep left rule applies. Paths are used by cyclists in Milton Keynes. You never need to cross a major road in Milton Keynes, there is always a subway or footbridge.

From Milton Keynes station square take the underpass to the right which will take you to Midsummer Boulevard and uphill to the city centre. The way is signed to city centre and Campbell Park.

At the city centre Midsummer Centre walk through, approx 80 metres, and rejoin Midsummer Boulevard. Continue on Midsummer Boulevard to the end. To the right is an underpass which takes you to footbridge leading to Campbell Park.

At the start of Campbell Park is the Memorial Art Space. Continue straight ahead to viewing point. Take curving path down and continue on past cricket pitch and over footbridge, keep going straight ahead and the path will come to canal bridge. There are lots of park benches.

Cross the canal bridge and turn left on to the poplar walk alongside the canal towpath. Continue for approx 1.8km and turn right by humpbacked canal bridge following sign for Willen Lake and Peace Pagoda. Footbridge takes you over major grid road and up to viewing point over North Willen Lake. Take the path down the middle to the lake, the Peace Pagoda will come into view on the right. Continue down path.

At the bottom if you turn right (not part of route) and follow signs to South Lake within 1km will come to restaurants, hotel, water sports, children's play area. Both lakes have paths around, approx 5km total.

At the bottom turn left past the tuff maze on left and with lake on right. Just after entering a copse there is a car park on left, go through car park following path between playing fields to exit. Go straight head, copse on left, until the curve in the road, take the redway to the right and this takes you via underpass to Tongwell industrial estate, Delaware Road. Follow path through industrial estate going under road bridge them turn right to redway alongside Tongwell Lake. Continue to go straight ahead as this redway goes over the M1 motorway then on to Tongwell Lane (redway).

At the end of the Tongwell Road, cross the road junction, and take path next to the football field. Approx 150m ahead is signed right turn on to path which takes you over river footbridge. After crossing river turn left and follow the riverside path all the way to the end of the park and the Iron Bridge. Take the pedestrian footway next to the iron bridge and go uphill toward the centre. Cross the road and follow the sign to car park. Take the raised footpath at the left side of the car park and this will take you to the parish church of Newport Pagnell and the war memorial and the end of the walk
