Description

A fairly quiet route between Margate and Ramsgate using a few parks and quiet roads where possible in the urban sections . About 4km / 2.5mi in the middle is through arable fields and as it stays on farm tracks it should avoid issues both with livestock and ploughed up paths. It was designed to avoid the problems on Marston Road and Haine Road highlighted in reviews of MarRam 1. (MarRam 2 was originally proposed to fix these but an better low-traffic way into Ramsgate was found when the route was tested.)

This version goes right past Ramsgate Station which is almost 2km / 1.2mi from the end point. But most local buses use the stops right next to the end point. Ramsgate has many shopping and eating options, also lots of small museums, independent shops and art galleries. Margate town centre is also a walk from the station beyond Dreamlands amusement park. Technically the middle third of the route has no stopping or public transport options but there are a few around Ramsgate Station before the edge of town, see map. If you need to pick up serious supplies this includes a large Tesco with cafe, slightly off route

Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

  1. Complete the survey training.
