Help connect Ramsgate

Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.

Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.

Give a hike and help get a for every one of Ramsgate’s Slow Ways.

Latest Updates

Most of it follows the England Coast Path (ECP), with good signage and well tended paths. Shortly after a turn onto a quieter road the path went off-road again on a bike path beside Stonelees Nature Reserve, which is shorter than staying on the ECP here. Pegwell Bay Country Park (PBCP) is just beyond Stonelees, there are even more views across the bay (plus many more birds in the reedbeds, mudflats and lakes). When you reach Cliffsend the path rejoins the road briefly before pulling away on a shared, set-back shared cyclepath which passes a replica Viking Longboat and has views of the derelict hoverport. There are several fast food places and shops alongside the big roads near Sandwich, a cafe near Stonelees, another in the PBCP car park, Njord (nice coffee, friendly welcome) is just over the road at the the north end of PBCP, and there's a kiosk near the Viking Ship....

Walked from Cliffsend to Minster on a Sunday late afternoon then Minster to Cliffsend (again) and on to Ramsgate on a wet weekday afternoon. The farm tracks from Minster had no vehicles, just a runner and a few dog walkers near Minster on both walks combined. There were a couple of stiles at the level crossing near Minster and some of the farm tracks and footpaths are a little uneven underfoot and a little muddy in the rain....

The middle section was along farm tracks which weren't as muddy as they could have be given the weather, but were quite rutted from the farm vehicles....

Walk this route

It’s not a very relaxing walk, but don’t seem to be many alternatives and there is a decent shared path alongside the road. Once you reach Ebbsfleet it’s a nice walk through Pegwell nature reserve and along the cliff top. Worth noting that Ramsgate train station is a 20 - 30 minute walk away from the marked end of the route....

Walk this route

This is either very inaccurate - up to 400m off course at times, or very inaccessible - a mile is blocked from public use, or both, depending on how you look at it. The route follows the official English Coastal Path along a path that leaves the road and follows the River Stour....

As usual with the coastal routes: very easy to follow, very pleasant to walk. Definitely recommend this route....

Walk this route

Once you leave the road and pick up the path along the cliffs the view is stunning and again nice clear paths. just south of the path where it leaves the Sandwich road and heads east towards the cliffs there is a cafe on the grass that is open during the day and serves simple food and drinks....

Walk this route

This route is unsafe- there is no pavement for a long stretch on manston road - this is a problem because there is a blind corner and it is a very fast road- we do need an alternative....

Walk this route

As noted by other reviewers, the first part of this route - between Ramsgate Beach and Dumpton Gap is on the foreshore. There is no sea wall, and this section is not possible for a couple of hours either side of high tide. You will need to go up the ramp to the clifftop path....

Walk this route

The route follows the England Coast Path (ECP) throughout, but the published Slow Ways route does not follow the official diversion from Stonar Cut, which continues along the Ramsgate Road and avoids Richborough Port and truck park....

Walk this route

Lovely walk with fantastic sea views (look out for the seal) and passing many interesting buildings linked to Charles Dickens. Plenty of cafes along the route and had a lovely ice cream in Broadstairs. A choice of routes along the beach or on the cliffs top depending on tide....

If the tide is in then you will need to take the steps up to the clifftop to King George VI Memorial Park and stay on the clifftop path to Broadstairs....

Later on in the route there is a recommendation to cross Haine road, which is also a very busy road....

If you walk straight along the main path in the park you come out at the end and follow a green verge all the way to a signpost to Dumpton Gap....
