Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

Walking with Tim (previous reviewer), and agreed - the river not crossable here. It explains why there is a footpath over the hill leading to the river here, and why the house here is called Penybont (end of the bridge), but it's not a bridge now and the footpath up the hill to the south wasn't evident on the ground - a crumbly stile was the only clue. We walked along the main road to join up what we hope will work for a newly minted Macmal three.

I checked out the river crossing for this route, whilst walking what is now Macmal(3)
and certainly at the time the river at Pen y Bont SH 805 038 was not crossable. The route shown is on a bridleway, which may be more suitable on horse-back but not suitable for a slowway. The footpath crossing on the map is shown further downstream to the west, but again at the time I saw it, in April, I didn't think it crossable. Macmal 3 at this point will follow the road toward the village of Glantwymyn. This route already has a lot of mileage along A roads and the extra I feel would not make it suitable,.
