Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

I walked this route with Tim. The sections on Glyndwr's Way are particularly lovely, and actually there's an option to carry on on the GW between Abercegir and Glantwymyn, which would doubtless be well-signposted, but goes up a great big extra climb. As Time metioned in his review, we didn't do the straight-line bridleway section between Abercegir and Glantwymyn on this version as we were testing out Macmal one at the time - I'll try to go back and have a go one day.
Big steep climb out of Penegoes which makes it a bit disappointing to get back down to the same A-road later on and realise that the A-road got all the easy sea-level land, but it'd be a horrible road to walk along, so it's the hills for us walkers then!
Glantwymyn to Mallwyd is straight and easy, walking on the valley road on the other side of the river to the A-road. Always within hearing of it, but only one car in all the 10km stretch. Bit too much tarmac for my liking, but easy striding, chatting terrain! And a nice pint in The Brigands Inn in Mallwyd with Tim while waiting for my bus.

I am submitting a review for this route albeit having walked an alternative section between Glantwymnyn and Abercregir. I am however confident in this section which follows marked bridleways and footpaths. The rest of the route was superb an excellent, plenty of well signed paths and bridleways over the hills. The road section between Glantwymnyn and Mallwyd is superb walking with little to no traffic. However this route requires reviewing fully, including the section as described.
