19 Feb 2023A direct, but not particularly interesting, route along reasonable footpaths and pavements. Much of the route passes through an industrial area. Both towns are worth visiting but check the transport situation, particularly at the weekend, where you can wait up to 2 hours for a bus! Nevertheless, enjoyed the stroll!.

16 May 2021A simple and direct route from Letchworth Garden City railway station to Baldock, mainly on pavements with a small part on well made path, very easy to navigate. The route goes through the urban landscape of the industrial area of Letchworth Garden City, which can be busy at times, before crossing the A1(M) via a foot bridge and terminating in the centre of the pretty town of Baldock, some distance from the bus stops in High Street and the railway station in Station Road.

09 May 2021 (edited 27 Jun 2023)Overall, a direct route; a few comments.
First, it is best to walk along the south side of Station Road, particularly if you are in a wheelchair or using a pushchair, by crossing at the pelican crossing by the station. There is an ongoing issue outside the takeaway outlets on the other side, and usually when I pass by this spot there is at least one car parked on the pavement, because someone is collecting a takeaway; occasionally there are several, and it can make getting along the footpath here quite difficult. Also, be wary of cyclists speeding downhill on the pavement on this road, which I have observed several times.
Overall, though this takes a very direct route, and is largely step-free. The exception is when crossing West Avenue/Pepys Way to get to the park in Baldock; on one side of the street, there is an insufficent dropped kerb that would probably be difficult for wheelchairs, although Hopewell Road and Pepys Way might provide a sufficient alternative route.
When the footpath reaches Letchworth Road from the park, turn left for step-free access.
