Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

05 Jun 2021It is possible to walk almost the entire way between Leighton Buzzard and Pitstone along the Grand Union Canal towpath, but presumably the lack of rest points along the way, apart from Grove Lock pub near the start, explains the detours. The existing route's detour to Slapton seems misjudged given that there is no longer a pub in the village, or any alternative nearby, and the route takes in an unpleasant stretch of the B488 through Horton, which is narrow, busy (though within a 30mph restriction) between tall hedges and with no verges (I have suggested an alternative as route Leipit 2). There is also an unnecessary detour along Wing Road in Linslade at the start of the route, given that the canal path can easily be picked up from Leighton Road, with ramped access adjacent to the Tesco car park. The towpath is concrete between Leighton and Grove Lock, and from then on dirt and grass (muddy when wet). The road route through Cheddington has pavement throughout, as far as Great Seabrook. The path from Gt Seabrook canal bridge to Pitstone can be very muddy in winter.
