Description

Some slight adjustments to Leahea2 in Leatherhead town to make use of footpaths. The crossing of the A24 is a problem but I found there were breaks in the traffic. Please be careful! Pleasant countryside across Leatherhead Downs. Pub and shop in Headley village. Church is usually open. Metrobus 21 to Epsom or Crawley stops every 2 hours

Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

I walked this on a slightly sunny morning, from Letterhead to Headley. It had rained a little in the preceding week.

You quickly leave Letterhead's residential streets (photo #1) behind with a walk through some footpaths, before heading down a lane with cottages (photo #2). There was no traffic when I walked it on a Saturday. The crossing of the A24 wasn't easy (photo #4), but I also found breaks in the traffic fairly soon. On the other side, it's a long slog up a hill with a golf course on each side (photo #5, #6). When you think you're at the top (photo #7), the path continues going up for a while longer alongside some lovely woods (photo #8). There was a fallen tree (photo #9), but it was easy to go around it.

After a short section along a muddy path alongside Mill Way, you then continue along woods, where the path is occasionally very muddy (photo #10, #11). There is then a short section along a lane (photo #12), before you go up a narrow path (photo #13) to the top of the next hill. Tea and cake at the finish at Headley Village Hall awaits (photo #14)!.

Interesting walk through the southern part of Leatherhead to the downs. Paths nearer Headley are quite narrow with some kissing gates which would prevent use of pushchairs etc. Toilets at Leatherhead Station and in Swan Shopping Centre. Small shop in Headley and good pub. MetroBus 21 runs every 2 hours to Epsom and Crawley. Headley church is usually open.
