Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

03 May 2021 (edited 27 Jun 2023)I walked this route in reverse over 2 days in the last week of April from Holsworthy to Launceston. This is a long walk with no facilities of any kind (no shops, resting places or WC) from leaving Holsworthy to arriving in Launceston.
Overall, much of the route is fine for walkers (except along the B3254 from Langdon's Farm to St Stephen's which is highly dangerous for all), but stiles, narrow bridges, rough pasture (sometimes with livestock), steep gradients on lanes and fields, and steps make it unsuitable for wheelers.
Starting at the meeting point in Holsworthy the route is through the Main Street with a pavement. it is advisable to take a diversion through the supermarket car park and alone Underlane to avoid walking under the railway bridge which has no pavement. The drawn route is fine from here along single track, very quiet lanes with little traffic to North Down. There are lovely views across farmland and countryside.
From here, walkers will enjoy the footpath section to Clawton church which is well way-marked, but includes several stiles, farmland and narrow bridges which are unsuitable for wheelers. However, the next section of the path has been diverted at present for Covid restrictions due to it crossing two gardens and the owners have requested the path is rejoined approximately 3/4 mile further up the lane at Higher Sellick.
On rejoining the path and bridleway, once again farmland, steep gradients and livestock are encountered as well as ground that would be very boggy and muddy in wet weather. It is very scenic and full of wildlife - I encountered deer and a fox as well as many birds and wildflowers on my way.
The lanes from Gunnacott to Lana and on to East Peeke are a very pleasant walk with minimal traffic, but once again there is only single track with no pavement, so reflective clothing is certainly good choice.
Another pleasant walk from East Peeke with some challenging gradients both down and uphill to Boyton before taking the lane to Langdon Farm. From this point, I have severe concerns with this route as it joins a very fast, busy road which has no pavement and is too dangerous to walk. There is no safe walkway until St Stephen's apart from a short stretch along the bridlepath into Yeolmbridge.
In order to minimise the length of time on the B3254, I would suggest taking the lane signposted to Yeolmbridge from Boyton to Ladycross and the footpath /bridleway to rejoin the drawn route.
