Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

08 Aug 2024Walked August 24. Decent walk, through Mary Stevens Park and then some road walking, all with pavements. Bunkers Hill woodland and the fields on exit, with great countryside views, were the highlight.
Potential refreshment stop at Manor House, Whittington. If doing again, would avoid the FP here, as badly overgrown. More direct route down the lane to the South takes you to the canal crossing, where it's plain sailing into Kinver.

02 May 2024This walk has a lovely destination, but has one fairly long B road stretch, hence the lower star rating. Personal taste! But its a really great way to get to Kinver, and see a variety of local landscapes on the way. After a section of town, park and pavements the walk opens out into a lovely wood and some fields. After a stretch on a road the walk moves down some interesting lanes and over a canal. I was tempted to get into Kinver via the appealing looking canal path! But sticking to the route we entered via the village to refresh ourselves and dry off at a very friendly tea shop. The town seemed to have a few. We added on to the walk by continuing another 15 mins of so to the Kinver National trust cave cottage site, on the edge of the village. This was spectacular and well worth the walk as a destination. Overall an enjoyable ramble.

17 Apr 2024This is a straightforward route, as described in other reviews with some very pretty scenes at the canal and river crossings on the edge of Kinver. It's easy to lose bearings in the housing estate, however. A nice mixed walk with parks, smaller roads, and one very challenging road to cross and walk alongside, before cutting into the footpath at the back of the hotel car park, but otherwise it was an easy and safe walk. We thought an approach walking along the towpath might be a nicer route into Kinver, but we stuck to the defined route.

04 Jul 2023Followed this route starting from Stourbridge. It is a very pleasant walk taking in a variety of field paths, open, sometimes high grassland and wooded sections plus the inevitable suburban pavements leading out of Stourbridge. The route keeps off the Stourbridge main roads where possible by using Mary Stevens Park and smaller roads. At Whittington, care needs to be taken crossing the A449 near the Manor House Pub. The approach to Kinver, over the Staffs and Worcs canal and the River Stour, was I thought, a particularly attractive section of the walk.
At Stourbridge and at Kinver there is a good range of facilities for shopping, eating and drinking and for public transport. Kinver has a relatively frequent bus service to Stourbridge and a limited one to Kidderminster. Stourbridge has very good rail and bus links to a wide range of destinations.

01 Jul 2023Varied and direct walk I started from Stourbridge. Makes use of the green spaces and mainly avoids main roads in Stourbridge. Having crossed the county boundary into Staffordshire forest and then field trails take you through to Whittington Hall Lane which is long and mostly straight but does require some care. There is a pub at Whittington and the footpaths beyond take you over the canal and then the River Stour to the very pretty outskirts of Kinver. The last section follows the pavement into the High Street with its numerous, shops, cafes and pubs. An excellent walk. Some stiles on the route.
