Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

20 Jun 2023Excellent route, low level, riverside path. Correctly mapped. Some pastureland, with sheep and a few cows at the far side of a field when I walked through.
May be difficult for wheelers, as the short stretch of path beside the River Lyon is narrow and rough, with tree roots. Also some of the bridges over burns flowing into the River Tay have a small step up to them. No stiles, all gates self closing. Walked mid June, the whole path had been recently strimmed except the first 200m east of Comrie Bridge, beside the River Lyon, through woodland to the first field.
The route is waymarked as Riverside Path, and River Tay Way. I walked along the road longer than I needed to: west of Balloch Park Luxury Lodges there's an off road path which is not waymarked from the west. Also at Farlayer car park (for fishermen) the farmer was working in the riverside field so I initially took to the track that the tractor had arrived on. I soon realised that I needed to keep next to the river.
The route runs along the road for about a mile southwest of Comrie Bridge, crossing the River Lyon on the road bridge, but it is a quiet road with reasonable sight lines.
Paths could be muddy during periods of wet weather, but was fine when I walked it during an extended dry period. It would also become flooded during times of high water flow in the River Tay.
I have given the route 5 stars, as it was mainly off road, level, well waymarked, and interesting. No settlements en route but a cafe is available some days, at Karelia House west of Comrie Bridge. It is softer going than kenabe1.
Interest at the Kenmore end - a monument which it is possible to ascend using narrow steps. A scenic cottage. Almost constant views of the river. Views to Schiehallion from the vicinity of Comrie Bridge. Also views to more distant hills and the tree clad slopes above the Appin of Dull. The only things detracting from the visual experience were the large electricity pylons crossing the route, and the smaller electrical supply lines running beside the route in its central portion.

02 Dec 2021A lovely route along the river with views of Schiehallion. I walked from Kenmore to Aberfeldy and it’s all low level. There were cattle in the fields just after the River Lyon and sometimes they have access to the river path. On the section opposite Dull there are some holes in the footpath to watch out for where the river bank is slumping.
I’d thoroughly recommend this route and if you combined it with Kenabe one then you have a circular route.

11 May 2022I walked this route again last week. The paths were good (the holes are still there but that's it) and the road walking section was quite quiet. There are signs in place warning about the trees along the river bank just before Kenmore. A number came down in the gales and so people are cautioned about them. I'm not sure if the trees on Drummond Hill faired any better but that would be another potential route option that isn't the road.
