Description
This route connects Holborn to Liverpool Street Station; the aim is to have a Slow Ways route that (as far as possible) uses the quieter back roads, is (as far as possible) direct, and is accessible to all, i.e. step free.
One notable feature is that between the London Museum and Moorgate the route uses the Highwalk, a raised pedestrian walkway through part of the Barbican estate. Access is via lifts (Photo), with stairs or escalator as alternative options. The Highwalk gives a good view of the excavated Roman city wall. (Photo)
Other highlights of this walk include Lincoln's Inn Fields, Leather Lane market, Hatton Garden jewellery district, Farringdon station, Smithfield Market and Finsbury Circus Gardens

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

20 Jul 2022I walked this route from Liverpool Street to Holborn. I thought it was a good balance between directness and avoiding the main streets. I liked stumbling across some really cool art works, pieces of history, and market spaces, even if I walked the route after dark! It was largely well-lit and felt safe for me at night.
I dinged a star because I couldn’t figure out, personally, exactly where to get up onto the overhead walkway. I followed the line as drawn and climbed the stairs just before the Museum of London roundabout to get on the walkway above the road but had no problem following and enjoying the route otherwise.

06 Jul 2022This is my favourite way to get from Holborn to Liverpool Street. Some great paths, alley ways and parks - mainly away from busy roads. It goes past many fascinating parts of old London; the remains of London Wall, the Barbican, St Alban's Church, Brooke's Market, Smithfields, Salter's Garden and Finsbury Circus along with the new developments in the city.

06 May 2022I really enjoyed this walk, it is packed with interesting nooks and crannies, and will please anyone who (like me) enjoys seeing bits and pieces of London's history while on the way.
I loved going up in a lift to the Barbican highwalk: the footpaths with luscious greenery and comfortable benches felt like a real hidden secret.
There are plenty of other surprises - walking through the middle of Smithfield Market; the old Farringdon station entrance opposite the new Elizabeth line entrance; the market at Leather Lane; and Lincoln's Inn Fields for some green space.
It's not 100% direct, the main reason for deviation is to keep off the busy A40 once east of the Gray's Inn Road.
Step free.
5 stars from me!.
