Description
This should be a quieter version between Heckfield and Wokingham. I tried to avoid sections leading along busy roads but it was no possible completely. There is a section approx. 1km from Heckfield where walkers need to go on Bramshill Road for 600m and it is not pleasant. A footpath next to Heckfield Park Farm can be muddy and sticky after rainy days as shown on the first photo. The next photo shows a crossing above Observer Way near Arborfield Cross. Finally, the last photo shows a turning to a narrow footpath off Barkham Road which is easy to overlook

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Heckfield is not exactly a transport hub. There is no bus stop anywhere near and I had to walk from Riseley which was highly unpleasant let alone safe. Next time, I'd probably start at Hook and walk via Heckfield to Wokingham or the other way round. There were also no shops or refreshment close to the starting point at Heckfield.
The route starts with a straight path through a meadow to reach crossroads where walkers need to take Bramshill Road. Walking along Bramshill Road is not pleasant because of heavy traffic and not much space on the verge. This section is approx. 600m long. The route then turns north towards Heckfield Park Farm. The route is partially paved, partially muddy as it serves for leading cows towards grazing grounds and it is not easy to walk on.
When the route reaches Thatchers Ford on the Devil's Highway, there is a bridge 20m next to the ford where it's possible to cross the stream safely even with a high water.
There is mostly no greater town on the route with the exception of Arborfield Cross where there is a shop and an inn. The rest of the route from Arborfield Cross takes another wide footpath down to a ford and up to Barkham. A shortcut path between board fences minimizes the length of walking along a noisy Barkham Road and the last stretch takes advantage of pavements through a quiet residential area and a park.
