Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

28 Jan 2024I walked this on a sunny afternoon, from Headley to Reigate. There had been some rain in the previous week.
From Headley the route starts with some ziggy-zaggy footpaths, and a few gates (photo #1), before I had to cross through a field with a (docile) horse. Around heath Farm, there was a tractor at work, luckily there were boards to walk on (photo #2). Soon, the route went down the slope (photo #3) and then up again in the direction of the M25, which you could hear a little. The route goes in a triangle here, but you can just go across. That would have made the turn-off through a hedge (photo #4) to the east also easier to spot.
After crossing Dorking Road and going around the Pfizer campus, you soon end up on the North Downs Way (photo #5). The paths are sometimes steep and slippery (photo #6, #7, #10), with many tree roots, and a few sections with steps. It is however a really nice walk, with some great views as well (photo #8, #9). After Colley Hill, the walk went down over a slippery path (photo #11). It was steep and I had to take care. From the bottom, you get a good view of the North Downs though (photo #12).
You then descend towards Reigate, where the route finished alongside residential streets (photo #13). I stopped a little earlier at the station, having walked the other short bit already as part of the Reigate/Redhill route.

13 Sep 2023A pleasant countryside walk although the M25 noise intrudes at times. Several stiles and gates. Steep paths in places (Buckland Lane) and steps on the North Downs Way. Surface generally good but plenty of tree roots on parts of the North Downs Way. General Store at Headley also serves drinks. Plenty of shops and cafes in Reigate.
I started from Ashtead and walked to Headley first.
