Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

  1. Complete the survey training.

The route through Central Park to the Railway Station and up from Mill Hey to Cliff(e) Street is easy to follow. The footpath from Hebden Road (A6033) to Brow Top Road (B6144) is fenced off from the field so is no longer grazed and is overgrown. Once up on Brow Top Road, it took me a while to realise that I should take the path through the Three Sisters complex and head for the communications mast. Here the footpath going to the left of the mast became very overgrown and continued in this fashion for some way. After this it was easy walking to reach the junction of A629 and Bingley Road. This was about 200 metres from where I changed buses from Cross Roads-cum-Lees to Haworth. The route then followed the Senior Way (named after a local councillor) for about 2 kilometres to cross the road between Cullingworth and Keighley. The Senior Way was picked again a little further up the road and soon found a shady bench for lunch. Keeping the wall on your right, Ryecroft Road at Harden was reached with a now urban walk down through Harden and up the the entrance of the St Ives Estate. Shortly after entering the estate, the way on drops to the right away from the road into the estate. Continuing on eventually following the footpath signs for Low Park, the tarmac road out of the estate towards Bingley is reached. This and a path goes down to the road between Harden and Bingley opposite Beckfoot Lane. The Slow Way route says to continue down the road to the Brown Cow pub and cross the Ireland Bridge into Bingley. However as I thought the road to be busy and noisy, I walked about 130 metres down the road to where the pavement narrowed (40 sign on a post) and instead turned down some steps into the woodland. This soon led to the Festival of Britain bridge crossing the River Aire into Myrtle Park and onward into the centre of Bingley.
