Description
This is an alternative route that uses minor roads and lanes as much as possible. In doing so it also avoids some of the (slight) issues discussed in the reviews of hamyat two. This route is probably suitable when the weather is as it has been recently - extremely wet - but is not really a replacement for hamyat two, which seems like a more attractive (if slightly longer) route when conditions are better!

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

04 Jan 2024I walked this today in a rare break from the rain. As expected, it was largely an easy walk using well established and gravelled lanes, and quiet minor roads. However, there are some things to note. Firstly, Ruffett Road, north of the golf course, is currently closed to all vehicles. This is to prevent traffic problems while the A432 is closed - there is no actual obstruction on the road, and it is in fact quite pleasant to walk down it knowing there will be no traffic at all! You do have to ignore the fairly aggressive road closure signs though. Secondly, and perhaps more significantly, Besom Lane was flooded by Grove Farm. It was passable with care without overtopping my boots, but given the purpose of this route was to avoid saturated ground, this was disappointing! Definitely something to be aware of and to come prepared for.
Overall, probably hamyat two should be the canonical route here (I will be back to walk it when conditions have improved) but this is a viable (and shorter) route. It is actually a very pleasant walk - so I think it deserves 4 stars despite the flooding today!.
