Description
This route follows the Basingstoke Canal towpath. However I'm unclear whether the canal towpath can be accessed from the B3012 at Frimley Green, just south of the aquaduct. If it can't, a completely different route will probably have to be devised

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

09 Jan 2022A really good easy to follow walk which can be done one way and the train back but requires a change at Ash Vale station. It predominately uses the towpath of the Basingstoke Canal along one of the most interesting sections including the impressive Brookwood Flight of 14 locks.
The first section from Frimley utilises the Blackwater Valley path (follow the signs for Blackwater Valley Path South) which is a good flat surface but slightly muddy in places after wet weather. This short section is dominated by the adjacent noisy A331 on the right but tranquil former gravel pits to the left.
The next section is a surfaced path between the gravel pits (now fishing lakes) and a foot level crossing over the railway line before entering Frimley Green. After a short section on road, cross Frimley Green and head up the Guildford Road to the traffic lights and hump back bridge over the canal. The towpath can be accessed on the far side of the bridge on the left and is marked with a finger post sign.
The next section of towpath runs through to Deepcut and can be very muddy in the winter but the surface is due to be improved in early 2022. The towpath run through a steep sided cutting at Deepcut where it emerges at Lock 28 with former lock keeper's cottage, the first of 14 locks in quick succession, descending gradually down towards Brookwood. The path is generally good with occasional puddles in wet weather. The canal runs adjacent to Deepcut and Pirbright Army camps on the left with frequent sound of gunfire from the firing ranges!
After the last lock (Lock 15) at Brookwood the towpath changes sides and becomes a surfaced path all the way to Brookwood station.
I am surprised this route has not been reviewed before as it is such a scenic and interesting walk. An easy and shorter variation would be to start (or finish if doing the route in reverse) at Farnborough North Station rather than Frimley.
